GROB

A new dimension and performance for 5-axis machining

German machine tool giant GROB manufactures advanced horizontal 5-axis machining centers and related automation.

A new kind of freedom and dynamism

GROB, a German family company that manufactures advanced 5-axis machining centers and automation systems, manufactures horizontal 5-axis machining centers in four different size classes (G350, G550, G750 and G1050) up to piece size Ø 1,600 mm and height 1,500 mm and pallet size 1250 x 1000 mm. Spindle options are plentiful and include power of 100 kW, torque of 2,500 Nm and revolutions up to 30,000 rpm.

Unique structure

GROB’s exceptionally intelligent design allows for maximum shaft freedom as well as top dynamism, strength and precision in a very compact size. Three linear axes and two rotary axes (A = 225 and B = 360, which can also be used for turning) by simultaneous interpolation. In addition, the horizontal spindle enables excellent stability, and the long Z movement of the spindle enables the utilization of large tools without a reduction in the maximum workpiece size, as well as the use of small tools. The upside down swivel table enables superior chip removal even in dry machining, as well as a fast disc-type tool changer for extremely fast tool changes (2.7 s from chip to chip).

The unique Z-axis movement of GROB's 5-axis machining centers, ie the movement of the spindle inside the frame into the tunnel, allows the use of full-size tools without reducing the maximum work piece size.

Intelligent automation

GROB aims to provide challenging songs with the lowest cost per part, new opportunities for designers, top quality songs and first class service. Founded in 1926, the family business, with a turnover of approximately EUR 1.3 billion and 6,000 employees, is run by Christian Grob, representing the third generation. The company has four factories located in Germany, USA, Brazil and China. GROB itself manufactures everything related to machines and their automation solutions as far as possible. The company offers machines from compact pallet automation solutions to large FM systems and automation of entire factories. GROB also invests heavily in software development and Industry 4.0-compliant digitization.

The video features a very compact and intelligent 15-pallet automatic warehouse PSS-R15, which does not require a separate pallet change station from the machine.

Technology center and 24H / 360D technical support

The headquarters and factory in Mindelheim, Germany, employs more than 4,000 people and has a production area of approximately 155,000 m2. There is also a technology center, where customers can get acquainted with all machine models and most of the automation solutions. GROB has a team to perform customer cycle time calculations and test machining. The company’s main customer base consists of the automotive industry, whose requirements have raised not only the quality level of the machines but also the service level to its peak. For example, all customers have 24/7 technical support, which is always provided by a technical professional with remote access to the customer’s machine.
